How It Works

short volley over-overhead - cardio tennis drill for large group

Setup

Players form two lines behind the baseline; the coach (F) is on the opposite side, having a basket to feed balls from (see graphic above).

Drill

The first player from each line (two at a time) moves up toward the net while hitting the following:

1. Short ball approach (coach uses double-feed to bring both players up at the same time)

2. Volley

3. Players move up to the net, tap it with their racquets, and then back up to hit a series of four (4) overheads. After each overhead, players move up to tap the net.

As soon as both players hit the last overhead shot, they exit and jog around the court (or perform various exercises: ladder drills, etc.) before going back in line.

Note

For a better workout, the players can hit a series of 10 overheads instead of 4, tapping the net after each shot.
